Place a large skillet over medium heat. Cook bacon until crispy, flipping as needed. Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate to drain. Once cool enough to handle, chop the bacon into small pieces.
Dice or chop the red onion. Run the onion pieces under cool water for 1 minute and then pat dry with a paper towel.
Place the lettuce in a large serving bowl. Top with bacon, onion, tomatoes, and cheese. Toss together.
When ready to serve, top the salad with dressing and toss again.
