Rinse the potato and dry it well. Use a fork to pierce the potato all over. Then rub oil over the outside.
Place on a microwave-safe plate and cook for 4 ½ minutes. Then, carefully flip the potato using tongs. Microwave for another 3 ½ minutes.
Check for doneness by poking the potato with a fork. It should easily reach the center of the potato. If not, microwave for another 1 minute until fork-tender.
Carefully cut vertically down the center of the potato to open it. Fluff the inside with a fork and add your favorite toppings.

To cook two potatoes at a time: Place the prepared potatoes on a plate and microwave for 6 minutes. Flip and then microwave for another 6 minutes. Check for doneness and cooking in 1-minute intervals as needed until fork-tender.Cooking time will vary based on the size of your potato.
