I’ve received product/compensation related to JAZZ Apples to use for #LoveNZFruit.  As always though, all opinions stated are my own and I only work with brands that I love!

Living in Portland we get to experience a lot of great food and restaurants.  There’s a farmer’s market happening in just about every town weekly and the restaurants nationally known.  We love to eat and hang out as a family while we try all the new (to us) places to eat and it was on once of these trips that I had a Summer Bounty Salad.   The salad I had was different from this salad except for the grilled zucchini and squash.  Until I tried had that salad I’d never thought about adding grilled veggies to a fresh salad before.  Now, I can’t believe that I didn’t.  It just seems to fit so well.

One of the things I love about salads is the variety of flavors and textures in one dish.  There is crispy and crunchy, sweet and salty, fresh and grilled all in one bowl!!!  This salad is killer and one thing I can’t live without in my salads in the summer is apples.  I love the addition of a quick sweet bite with a crunchy, crispy texture.

I recently tried these JAZZ apples and they are fantastic!!!  I was out of town when they got to my house so I had my husband bring me some out to California when he met me out there.  I shared with my parents and we all loved them!  We always have some kind of meat and cheese tray at my Mom’s house so we sliced one up and had it with our snack and they were gone FAST!

What I absolutely LOVE about JAZZ apples, beyond their amazing taste in the middle of summer, is Crunch to Contribute!  It’s a really fun and easy way to help others.  If you snap a quick selfie while crunching down on a JAZZ apple and post the photo, $1 will be donated to either the American or Canadian Diabetes Association!!!  They’re a New Zealand company that is working to contribute to a diabetes prevention solution.    Send them your selfie and follow along on Twitter here or check out the website to find out where you can get your JAZZ.

This summer Real Housemoms teamed up with some other absolutely awesome bloggers to bring you recipes using New Zealand pears and apples.  Why?  Because we all love them, but their growing season in the U.S. is in the fall and winter.  New Zealand is riht in the middle of their season during our summer!  That means lots and lots of delicious recipes using our favorite fruits all year long!  You can follow along using #loveNZfruit and be sure to click below and see all the super tasty recipes using JAZZ apples.

We had a great Fourth of July weekend.  How about you?   We celebrated over two nights, starting on the 4th and then on Saturday also.  We had barbecue and fireworks with friends and it was great!  It doesn’t get dark here until close to 10 so the kids were up late!  That made for some interesting days but it was lots of fun.  The kids had a great time and so did we.  We could see big fireworks going off all around us and we could hear them going late into the night.  It was so great! For years I have been thinking of making my own barbecue sauce and just haven’t.  It wasn’t that I was intimidated by the process, it’s really very simple, it was more that I loved one particular sauce.  My husband and I love the barbecue sauce from Wood Ranch.  It’s a barbecue restaurant in California and for years we would stock up when we went back to visit family and friends in CA.  I even had a friend that would pack some up and bring it out every time she came to visit!  Recently I decided to try to crack the code and make my own version of this sauce.  Let me tell you that was the plan.  This sauce ISN”T Wood Ranch barbecue sauce but it was so good that I had to share it with you.  My husband absolutely loved it! You really learn a lot about yourself and your relationships with you move to a new state.   One thing I learned was that I’m a pack rat.  I keep a lot.  I’ve always sort of know that but there was no shrugging it off when the movers showed up to load our truck and said, “You’re gonna need a bigger truck.”   Well, we got the bigger truck, that wasn’t enough.  We got a 12 foot trailer to tow behind the biggest truck, that wasn’t enough.  We got a big pack and ship moving crate, that wasn’t enough, but it was enough for my husband and so we left a lot a few things behind.  One thing that didn’t make the trip was our grill.  I think the only reason my husband was OK leaving it behind was the fact that he could see himself shopping for a new grill.  It has taken almost a year trying to get one.  I’d start out saying look this one is cheap and he’d research and research and research and come back with another grill that we just had to have that was 10 times the price.  this kept happening and happening and happening until just today!  We both realized [Read more...]

It’s warming up and that means bikini season is just around the corner.  Who am I kidding?  I haven’t had a bikini on in just about a decade.  At least not one that didn’t have the word tank in the beginning.   I’m so excited that one piece bathing suits are so cute now!  When things start to warm up I start to think of having to show more arm  rather than my mid drift.  I’m going to be heading out to Las Vegas in September with some heart family to help them celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary and I want to look my best.  Beyond that, I really just want to feel my best.
