We had a great Fourth of July weekend.  How about you?   We celebrated over two nights, starting on the 4th and then on Saturday also.  We had barbecue and fireworks with friends and it was great!  It doesn’t get dark here until close to 10 so the kids were up late!  That made for some interesting days but it was lots of fun.  The kids had a great time and so did we.  We could see big fireworks going off all around us and we could hear them going late into the night.  It was so great! For years I have been thinking of making my own barbecue sauce and just haven’t.  It wasn’t that I was intimidated by the process, it’s really very simple, it was more that I loved one particular sauce.  My husband and I love the barbecue sauce from Wood Ranch.  It’s a barbecue restaurant in California and for years we would stock up when we went back to visit family and friends in CA.  I even had a friend that would pack some up and bring it out every time she came to visit!  Recently I decided to try to crack the code and make my own version of this sauce.  Let me tell you that was the plan.  This sauce ISN”T Wood Ranch barbecue sauce but it was so good that I had to share it with you.  My husband absolutely loved it! You really learn a lot about yourself and your relationships with you move to a new state.   One thing I learned was that I’m a pack rat.  I keep a lot.  I’ve always sort of know that but there was no shrugging it off when the movers showed up to load our truck and said, “You’re gonna need a bigger truck.”   Well, we got the bigger truck, that wasn’t enough.  We got a 12 foot trailer to tow behind the biggest truck, that wasn’t enough.  We got a big pack and ship moving crate, that wasn’t enough, but it was enough for my husband and so we left a lot a few things behind.  One thing that didn’t make the trip was our grill.  I think the only reason my husband was OK leaving it behind was the fact that he could see himself shopping for a new grill.  It has taken almost a year trying to get one.  I’d start out saying look this one is cheap and he’d research and research and research and come back with another grill that we just had to have that was 10 times the price.  this kept happening and happening and happening until just today!  We both realized [Read more...]

It’s warming up and that means bikini season is just around the corner.  Who am I kidding?  I haven’t had a bikini on in just about a decade.  At least not one that didn’t have the word tank in the beginning.   I’m so excited that one piece bathing suits are so cute now!  When things start to warm up I start to think of having to show more arm  rather than my mid drift.  I’m going to be heading out to Las Vegas in September with some heart family to help them celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary and I want to look my best.  Beyond that, I really just want to feel my best.

Busy weeknight chicken | Real Housemoms

This busy weeknight chicken dinner is so simple, it’s ridiculous.   I have been making it for years when I still worked outside of the house.  I could come home and have dinner on the table in no time!  I love that it’s so basic that you can use the leftovers for virtually anything.  I like to make a double batch when I can and keep it in the fridge for a fast lunch or an even faster dinner another night.  The other night my neighbor invited my oldest over to her house for dinner and he turned her down for this chicken.  I’ve never seen a kid more excited for chicken and rice in my life.  Don’t get me wrong he has so much fun at her house and loves to eat up there but he couldn’t pass up on this chicken.  It makes dinner time even easier when the kids are on board with what your making!
